#datedtodreamy

A solid foundation of trust is what makes the designer-client relationship so successful. We have found that our happiest clients are the ones who are ready and willing to rely on our team for those all-important recommendations that will truly transform their spaces and in turn, their lives. This is the case with our #datedtodreamy project clients!

We all have those rooms in our homes that we rarely visit because, well, they’re outdated and typically a little awkward. The formal living room in our client’s home was oozing with architectural charm (peep those original built-ins and neoclassical fireplace surround!), but its long, narrow footprint left them stumped on furniture placement and overall function. Heavy draperies and bulky furniture pieces left the room feeling even more cramped and uninviting.Craving a lighter color palette, and a space that could be utilized for games and fun, our clients teamed up with lead designer, Mady Perillo, who quickly set out to create the Country Club Coastal vibes they were after!

Designing a long, narrow space is challenging - even for us designers! We find that it’s often helpful to divide the room up into functional “zones” to help with furniture placement and to ensure that no inch of valuable space is wasted. We divvied this room up into two zones: one for games / puzzling, and the other for cozying up next to the fireplace with a cup of coffee in hand.

We settled on a substantial round game table paired with curved seating to anchor the room’s “game zone”. The driftwood finish gives a nod to our coastal inspiration without feeling “theme-y”. Incorporating furniture with soft angles allows your eye to move around freely against the otherwise box-y feel of the room’s footprint and creates better flow. With enough seating accommodations for six, our clients are able to host game nights with ease, while the beautiful honeycomb pendant above provides additional task lighting for those late-night puzzle sessions! With this room not being the primary entertaining space for our clients, it was important that each piece be purposeful and impactful. In the “cozy zone” we opted for an oversized chair that’s roomy enough for two and paired it with an upholstered ottoman so guests can prop their feet up and take a load off. The swivel base ensures that whether you’re peering out the window in the morning, cheering on the card game nearby, or basking in the warm glow of the fireplace, you always have the best seat in the house. Upholstered in performance fabrics, these seats are life-proof - an important detail to invest in when it comes to new furniture! Custom draperies and pillows were crafted in fabrics with dreamy blues of all shades. The modern wave embroidery design found in the room’s draperies is tailored into a traditional pleat style and installed on smart brass hardware giving the room a sophisticated and polished feel.

An all-over fresh coat of paint on the walls in the creamiest of whites creates the light and bright atmosphere our clients were craving, and gave us a fresh backdrop to display some of their favorite family photos and art. We wanted to play up the visual impact of the original architectural details found in the space, and chose to anchor the room’s main focal point (the fireplace!) in a warm grey. It now stands out against the textured brick, allowing the gorgeous dentil molding detail to shine on its own!Shining some light (literally!) on those original built-ins was high on our priority list, so we decided on installing sconces above in a soft brass. Our clients love turning those on in the evenings - their soft glow now highlights a collection of carefully curated books, accessories and treasures our team styled to perfection! Driftwood accents sprinkled throughout call back to the game table’s finish and help to solidify the coastal nod we were after while creating warmth.

Our clients are absolutely in love with their new, not-so-formal living room space and are the perfect example of how partnering with an interior design professional can ensure you’re investing where it counts in your home!
